WORKING IN COLLABORATION WITH RIO AND EXCESS ENERGY COMMUNICATIONS, ORACLE DESIGN WAS ASKED TO DESIGN NEW BRANDING AND NEWSLETTERS FOR THE NEW PIONEERING PROJECT IN SCHOOLS ACROSS THE UK, ENTITLED 'SEA4LIFE'.
CLIENT
The Real Ideas Organisation is a pioneering social enterprise which creates and
provides programmes, products and services that help young people around the world
realise their potential. All of our work has economic, social and environmental goals –
they invest all of their profits back into developing their work with young people;
providing them with the opportunity and support to make change happen using their
own ideas, energy and ability.
They work with a wide range of clients, from government departments and local
authorities to private businesses, universities and schools, creating and delivering
specialist services for them that meet their individual needs.
OBJECTIVE
To work for the Real Ideas Organisation, based in Plymouth, to teach design and logo
design to children at Downderry School. To work on 2 separate workshops with the
children and use the ideas and creativity they come up with to develop a final logo and
branding for the Sea4Life project.
To apply new branding to 2 newsletters/e-bulletin's for the project, one for the teachers
and one for the children.
SOLUTION
Working closely with the children in 2 separate workshops at Downderry School, we
used the basic ideas and principle combined from children at the school to develop a
professionally designed logo and branding for the project.
Our Director, Andrew Stone, split the class into groups and got the children to create
mood boards to look at font and colours. The next process for the children was to
present their ideas to the class and vote in order to choose final ideas for Oracle to
then develop into professional logo's.
We then designed 6 different logos which, were combinations of ideas children had
come up with in the first session. After pitching these design to the children in the 2nd
workshop and getting them to vote for their favorite or combination of ideas they
liked, we went away and finalised the logo ready for use.
We chose colours to represent the sea, the sun and the sand. The wave represents
the ocean and the dolphin the creatures in it.
We then designed newsletters/e-bulletins for the teachers and children to use as a
template to be able to edit and update information on the latest happenings and
news on the project and it's progression across the UK.
The school was very happy with the final outcome and said "Oracle worked really
hard on this project and we are thrilled with our final designs".
RESULT
Sea4Life has been making a splash all across the South West, since we completed
the project,
with 21 schools now on board. This is an ambitious programme of
work and the network of coastal schools is set to expand within the South West
and beyond, including international partner schools.
There are clusters of schools in North Devon, Cornwall, Plymouth and Dorset that
can now share information throughout the Sea 4 Life programme and a regular
e-bulletin to keep everyone updated on marine issues, the environment, teaching
outside the classroom and anything anyone involved in the project feels is relevant.
A number of inspiring partners and practitioners are getting in on the action – from
scientists to actors, authors to musicians. Partners so far include the Marine
Biological Association, UNESCO, Jurassic Coast, Coast Net and Appledore Arts.
