The Old Inn is a traditional Cornish pub at the heart of Mullion, known for its warm atmosphere, local charm, and welcoming hospitality. With deep roots in the community and a building full of history and personality, the brand needed to reflect the same sense of authenticity and character people experience when visiting in person.
Create a brand identity that captured the warmth, heritage, and recognisable character of The Old Inn, while giving the business a more refined and consistent visual presence across print, signage, menus, and digital applications.
The identity needed to feel timeless and premium, without losing the relaxed and welcoming personality of a proper Cornish pub.
One of the key challenges was creating a brand that felt distinctive without relying on generic pub branding tropes. The Old Inn already had something incredibly recognisable — the building itself — so the opportunity was to turn that into the centrepiece of the identity.
The branding also needed to work across a wide variety of applications, from embroidered clothing and menus through to signage and digital marketing. This meant creating a flexible identity system with multiple logo variants that could adapt depending on scale, reproduction method, and background colour.
Another important consideration was balancing heritage with clarity and usability. The brand needed to feel established and characterful, while still working cleanly and consistently across modern touchpoints.
We developed a refined identity system centred around a detailed hand-drawn illustration of The Old Inn itself, paired with a classic typographic wordmark. Together, these elements created a distinctive and recognisable brand lock-up rooted in the pub’s heritage and physical presence.
The wider identity system included a carefully selected colour palette inspired by warm Cornish hospitality, alongside a typography pairing that balanced tradition with readability across print and digital formats.
